The camera is in very nice condition, with no damage or marring. The viewfinder, film compartment, mirror box, shutter, and battery compartment are all very clean and in great condition. All dials, switches and knobs click and actuate exactly as they should. The light meter works perfectly.

The Ricoh XRS (also called the XR7 when not equipped with this camera's solar power panels) is an aperture priority auto-exposure camera which is also capable of fully manual shooting. This means that the photographer has many options available when making a photo. He or she can simply set the lens aperture, frame the shot, focus, and shoot, and let the camera handle the complicated job of selecting a shutter speed to make a proper exposure every time. In this mode, the photographer is able to control depth of field, an important element of artistic photography.

In full manual mode, the photographer can choose both the shutter speed and aperture, allowing perfect control of every aspect of the photograph. An on-board light meter informs the photographer of the proper exposure setting, even in Manual mode, making this an excellent camera for both experienced photographers and those looking to learn as well.

The included lens has a focal length of 50mm. This makes it an ideal setup for many types of general purpose photography, including landscape, snapshots, action, family photos, architectural shooting, and street photography. The aperture ring clicks as it should, and the focus ring spins fluidly. The mount is pristine, and the filter threads are unmarred. The aperture blades are snappy and oil free, and the glass elements are free of any blemishes, balsam separation, cleaning marks, and fungus.

Additionally of note is the fact that this camera uses the popular K-mount lens system, meaning that many lenses from various makers can be natively mounted to the machine. These include offerings from Pentax, who made some of the best lenses of the day.

Lastly, the XRS has two solar panels on the pentaprism which will power the camera in bright sunlight when the batteries are dead. We have not tested this system and cannot guarantee it works correctly, however the camera works perfectly with the common 1.5v batteries installed (these are included).
