The camera is in very good cosmetic condition. The viewfinder is clean and clear, and the film compartment is clean and free of imperfections. The battery compartment is clean and free of corrosion. All knobs, dials, switches, and levers actuate with precision.

The included lens is Minolta's fantastic MC Rokkor series 50mm. This standard focal length lens is perfect for general photography, snapshots, action, landscapes, portraits, and street photography. The fast aperture of F/1.7 enables glorious bokeh when shot wide open, offering subject isolation for portraits, and low-light shooting such as the type found with nighttime street shooting. When stopped down, the lens creates outstanding sharpness across the entire frame with no light falloff, chromatic aberration, or distortion.

The issues with this camera that allow us to sell it at such a reduced price are the following: The light meter works, but sometimes falters and reads incorrectly when the lens is wide open. If we stop down the lens aperture and use the camera in depth of field preview mode, it works fine.

The camera can also be used perfectly well in full manual mode, and in this mode everything works perfectly.

The lens shows some haze and other aberrations on the internal lens elements. The lens was tested on a digital camera and the results were fine, but it is not a perfect lens.

The XE-7 is quite possibly the very best Minolta SLR camera ever produced. It is the same body and design used under license from Minolta by Leica for their R-series SLR cameras. The build quality is second-to-none and this camera feels incredibly robust in the hand. A truly high-end piece of photographic machinery, the XE-7 is simple to use yet capable of every advanced function required by the most serious photographers.

It uses an SR Mount, which means that any of Minolta's fantastic MC / MD lenses will fit on this camera body.
