Here we have an incredibly rare camera, a fully functional Kodak Ektra 35mm film rangefinder camera, with Kodak Ektar 50mm F/1.9 lens, lens cap, and original screw-together metal lens case.

This camera works exactly as it should. The shutter works as it should and in our testing produced nice images at all speeds (we shot a few rolls of film through this camera during a tour of the Kodak factory - see our story on this experience here **link coming ).

The lens is in excellent condition. The focusing action is smooth and precise. The aperture works correctly and shows no oil or marring. The lens glass elements are clean and in excellent condition with no fungus or haze.

The viewfinder is clean and clear and the rangefinder works correctly. The separate rangefinder window is nice and bright, and focusing is easy.

Well-known among camera enthusiasts, the Kodak Ektra was the last truly exceptional Kodak camera made in Rochester, NY. It was produced in the 1940s at immense cost, and is unlike any other camera made then or now. It is incredibly solid and dense, and mechanical in every way. It is also, however, a camera that is historically very prone to failure. Which is why finding a fully functional Ektra is so rare and wonderful.
