Here we have a beautiful, rare, and fully functional Canon IIB 35mm film rangefinder camera with Canon Serenar 50mm F/1.9, lens cap, original case, film takeup spool, and manual. This is a "Made in Occupied Japan" model.
All of the functions of this camera work as they should and the camera is in quite good cosmetic condition.
The shutter is intact and works correctly at all speeds, including the slow speeds. The viewfinder is clean and clear and the rangefinder patch works as it should. The focusing mechanism works correctly, and all other knobs, dials, and levers actuate as they should. The film compartment is clean. The finish of the chrome is excellent, and even the case is in very good condition.
The included Canon Serenar 50mm F/1.9 fast prime lens is beautiful. The barrel collapses correctly, and the finish is in excellent condition. The aperture actuates fluidly and the blades are in excellent condition. The glass elements are clean and free of fungus, haze, and dust. The focusing lock on the focusing tab is missing.
This LTM (Leica thread mount) lens can be used on any Leica thread mount camera, or adapted to today's mirrorless cameras with an inexpensive adapter. Conversely, any LTM lens can be mounted to the Canon IIB.
The Canon IIB is one of the best of all so-called "Leica copies," incorporating many features not found in Leicas of its time. These include the spring-loaded take up spool and the integrate rangefinder/viewfinder.
