The film compartment, battery compartment, and viewfinder are pristine and without defects. The lens is in excellent condition without balsam separation, haze, fungus, or scratches. All levers, buttons, and switches actuate as they should, and the autofocus system works perfectly.

The Ricoh AF40 is a compact, automatic point-and-shoot camera to compete with Canon's AF35m and Nikon's L35AF. It has a 38mm f/2.8 Color Rikenon lens (4 elements in 3 groups - Tessar type) that makes exceptionally punchy and contrasty shots. Images from this lens are incredibly sharp with gorgeous color rendition. One of the best optics in a classic point-and-shoot.

It also features automatic film advance and rewind, is compatible with films up to ISO 1000, and features fast and accurate auto-focus.

Exposures are controlled electronically with automatic program shooting, allowing the photographer to focus on composition, framing, and just having fun. Integrated and user-deployable flash enable fill-flash and low-light shooting.
